Beer Battered Fries (Vegan)
Written by Kathryn D'Imperio

Beer Battered Fries SampleThese French fries are dipped in a delicious beer batter, and they are great with ketchup or BBQ sauce. I love French fries, and this recipe is probably the best fried up potatoes that I make. I prepared these for a cooking competition, and everyone who tasted them was impressed with these beer battered fries.

So for all of you, here is my competition-worthy recipe. The exact measurements are not too important, because I find it’s easiest to make these by taste and appearance. Just be sure you have plenty of beer and potatoes. You might want a second batch of fries.

Ingredients:

  • Seasoned Flour (if available, or just use regular if not)
  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Cooking oil
  • Potatoes, peeled and fresh-cut
  • Beer! (The darker the beer, the better the batter.)

Directions:

Kate Cooking FriesMix together flour, paprika, salt, and pepper. Pour some beer into the breading mixture, and stir well. The mixture should be around the consistency of pancake batter.

Peel and chop potatoes to resemble fresh-cut fries. Make them as thick and chunky or else as shoestring-like as you wish. You can also do potato wedges!

In a pan, bring the cooking oil to a high temperature so that you can deep-fry the fries.

Using tongs, dip the cut potatoes in the batter to cover them with the breading. Move the fries into the hot cooking oil. When they reach a golden brown color, remove them and place on a pan with paper towels. Let the excess oil drip off and cool a bit.

Serve the beer battered French fries warm, and enjoy!
